CID is leading the redevelopment of the Auckland District Court, one of the busiest and most complex court facilities in the country.
The Auckland District Court at 65–69 Albert Street was built in 1985 and provides 28,000m² of floor space within a five-level podium structure and nine-storey tower above.
The building houses 28 courtrooms — 10% of all courtrooms in New Zealand and 33% of all courtrooms in Auckland City.
The project includes seismic strengthening to meet modern building standards, alongside the replacement of essential services such as heating, ventilation, and air conditioning. These upgrades will ensure the building remains safe, compliant, and fit for purpose for years to come.
Work is being delivered floor by floor, with careful planning to keep the court fully operational throughout construction. At any time, only a small number of courtrooms are offline, helping to minimise disruption to justice services.
Several refurbished areas have already been completed and returned to service, including new courtrooms and staff amenities. As the programme progresses, further handovers are scheduled to align with the court’s operational requirements.
The final phase of tower works is expected to be completed before the end of 2025, with podium remediation works commencing in early 2026.
CID also supported planning for temporary upgrades at the North Shore District Court to help manage capacity during construction.
CID works closely with the Ministry of Justice to manage construction, coordinate with court operations, and keep the project on track. The redevelopment remains on schedule and continues to be delivered within budget and with minimal disruption to court services.
