CID is leading the redevelopment of the Auckland District Court, one of the busiest and most complex court facilities in the country.
The Auckland District Court at 65-69 Albert Street was built in 1985 and provides 28,000m2 of floor space within a five-level podium structure and nine-storey tower above.
The building houses 28 courtrooms - 10% of all courtrooms in New Zealand and 33% of all courtrooms in Auckland City.
The project involves internal demolition to allow strengthening of the concrete structure to meet modern safety standards, upgrading obsolete HVAC, lighting, electrical, fire and architectural elements, and improving the overall functionality of the court while ensuring the court remains fully operational during construction works.
During the 2024/25, CID completed the first stage of construction and handed over several refurbished areas, including the court’s cafeteria, four new external and internal decant spaces and a new courtroom. Work has progressed on multiple floors, with further handovers scheduled to align with the court’s operational continuity requirements. CID also supported planning for temporary upgrades at the North Shore District Court to help manage capacity during construction.
CID works closely with the Ministry of Justice to manage construction, coordinate with court operations and keep the project on track. The redevelopment remains on schedule and continues to be delivered within budget and with minimal disruption to court services.
